Deep Fire Update August 26, 2023
Deep Fire
Publication Type: News 08/27/2023
CURRENT SITUATION
The Deep Fire remains at 58% contained and is mapped at 3,833 acres. Warmer and drier conditions yesterday resulted in an uptick in fire behavior, but the fire remains in its footprint, and all constructed lines held.
A small area of active fire was noted near Cherry Flat, where crews are working to connect handline to build dozer line close to the fire’s edge. Resources on-scene will continue to work on containing and mopping up the fire there. They completed a saw cut yesterday to the rocky area east of the fire, and will continue work to construct and improve that line today. Some heat was also detected along the Stuart Fork. Crews have been in there for multiple days, watching for rolling material from the steep slopes and constructing additional barriers to mitigate that rollout when it happens. The third area of heat was near the far northeastern corner of the fire in the Deep Creek drainage. That area received less rain than the southern area, and a run of about 30 acres was observed yesterday afternoon into Deep Creek. However, the fire is positioned to run into rock, and at this time does not pose a threat to containment. The fire remains south of Little Salt Creek.
Structures have been secured and plumbed with hose and sprinklers for several days. Crews will remain in the area to ensure no damage happens to the timberlands or any of the private inholdings, including the Trinity Alps Resort, in the area.
WEATHER
Weather will continue to trend warmer and drier today. Normal diurnal winds are anticipated again. A low-pressure system approaching the area next week may bring cooler temperatures and changing winds early next week.
