2024 SQF Lightning Fires Area, Trails, and Roads Closure


Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.S0(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest. This order is effective from August 16, 2024, through August 30, 2024.
 

1. Going into or being upon any National Forest System lands within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fire Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(e).
 

2. Being on any National Forest System Trail within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.SS(a).
 

3. Being on any National Forest System Road within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R § 261.54(e).
 

4. Entering or using any Developed Recreation Site within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58(b)
 

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.S0(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
 

1. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
 

2. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
 

3. Owners or lessees of land in the area, to the extent necessary to access their property.
 

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F. R. Part 261, Subpart A.
 

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.

The 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area boundary begins at the intersection of the Sherman Pass Road (Forest Road No. 22S05) and Section 28, Township 22 South, Range 33 East, Mount Diablo Base & Meriden, then continues north approximately 1.5 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 21, then continues east approximately 3 miles to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 13, then continues north approximately 5 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 25, then continues east approximately 3 miles to its intersection with the northeast corner of Section 29, T. 21 S., R. 34 E., MDB&M, then continues south approximately 2 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 4, T. 22 S., R. 34 E., MDB&M, then continues east approximately 2 miles to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 35, T. 21 S., R. 34 E., MDB&M, then continues north approximately 3 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 23, then continues east approximately 2 miles to its intersection with the northeast corner of Section 24, then continues south approximately 5 miles to its intersection with the boundary of the Dome Land Wilderness in Section 7, T. 22 S., R. 35 E., MDB&M, then continues east approximately 6.5 miles along the boundary of the Dome Land Wilderness to its intersection with the Sequoia National Forest Boundary in Section 7, T. 22 S., R. 36 E., MDB&M, then continues south, west, and north along the Forest Boundary approximately 38 miles to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 21, T. 25 S., R. 34 E., MDB&M, then continues north approximately 4 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 4, then continues west approximately 2 miles to its intersection with southwest corner of Section 36, T. 24S., R. 33 E., MDB&M, then continues north approximately 4 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 13, then continues east approximately 1 mile to the southwest corner of Section 7, T. 24 S., R. 34 E., MDB&M, then continues north approximately 3 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 31, T. 23 5., R. 34 E., MDB&M, then continues east approximately 1 mile to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 29, then continues north approximately 2 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 20, then continues west approximately 2 miles to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 13, T. 23 5., R. 33 E., MDB&M, then continues north approximately 3 miles to its intersection with the northwest corner of Section 1, then continues west approximately 2.5 miles to its intersection with the Cherry Hill Road (Forest Road No. 22512) then continues north 1.5 miles along Cherry Hill Road to the starting point.
