Smoke Outlook for Central Sierra and Greater Tahoe Area, Mosquito Fire (Thursday, 09-22-22)

The fire perimeter remains stable with no significant growth and containment now up to 60%. Last night’s rain showers are forecast to give way to clear skies and warming temperatures. Fuels will likely start drying out again, and smoldering smoke production from heavy fuels is likely to continue or increase. 

Smoke
More smoke accumulation in drainages west of the fire perimeter is likely this weekend as a high pressure ridge moves in bringing calm wind to the area. Yesterday morning smoke accumulated along the American River corridor from Foresthill, Auburn, and down to Roseville/Folsom. Those area experienced a few hours of USG/Unhealthy air quality overnight and in the early morning. Smoke cleared by the afternoon. The American River corridor again experienced some smoke this morning with air quality in the Moderate to USG range. As the weather warms and dries over the coming days, this pattern is expected to continue and air quality may worsen.
