Madison RD Pile Burning Notification 03-04-2024
Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF Prescribed Fire Operations
Publication Type: Announcement - 03/04/2024 - 10:46
As weather conditions remain favorable, the Madison Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest plans to continue prescribed fire pile burning operations in the Gravelly Range near Johnny Ridge (NFS Road 324) and the Broomtail ridge areas south of Cameron this week. The piles are remnant machine piles from wildfire suppression operations conducted on the Monument Fire of 2018.
The larger piles may take three to five days to fully consume. Firefighters will be on-site to patrol the area and completely extinguish the piles until declared "out."
Smoke impacts are expected to be low during the day; residual smoke during the evenings and early morning hours may be visible from the Madison Valley and US Highway 287, particularly in the area of the McAtee Bridge Fishing Access site.
