Easy Fire
Publication Type: News - 08/10/2024 - 15:57
Quick Facts
Size: 1999 acres | Start Date: July 17, 2024 | Location: 17 miles west of Mazama, WA | Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning | Resources Assigned: 234
CURRENT SITUATION: The fire area saw measurable precipitation yesterday moderating fire activity. Pockets of green fuel within the fire perimeter continue to burn down causing significant smoke in the area. As the fire continues to work through the Swamp Creek drainage below Mount Hardy, fire managers are prepping for any uphill spreads in the heavy timber there.
TODAY: The red flag warning for lightning and extreme winds issued yesterday has been extended until midnight Saturday. With expected wind gusts up to 40 mph, firefighters may be forced to take a tactical pause during those events. Crews will focus their efforts improving containment lines along State Route 20 as well as clearing any hazards along the roadway.
WEATHER AND SMOKE: Another 50 percent chance of thunderstorms arrives on Saturday with the best chance being in the late morning as the system progresses eastward. Heavy rain and gusty winds are possible with any storm that forms. Winds will be light and terrain dominated, unless impacted by a thunderstorm. Sunday thunderstorm potential will decrease, chances remaining around 20 percent. Temperatures will remain in the low 80s through the weekend.
Air quality in Chelan, Manson, Brewster, and communities in the Methow Valley is likely to be unhealthy for sensitive groups in the morning, improving to moderate for most of the day and evening. Communities in the Okanogan Valley should have good air quality tomorrow. State Route 20 will remain closed through the weekend as crews continue working to mitigate hazards. Washington Department of Transportation will reevaluate conditions on Monday August 12, 2024. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has closures in place for trails within the fire area: https://bit.ly/EasyFireClosures. This closure includes a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Campfires are prohibited. There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place over the fire: https://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_4_6779.html. Unauthorized drone activity is prohibited under the TFR.
