Easy Fire Daily Update

August 11, 2024

Quick Facts

Size: 1999 acres | Start Date: July 17, 2024 | Location: 17 miles west of Mazama, WA | Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning | Resources Assigned: 237

CURRENT SITUATION: A heavy fog settled over the fire last night moderating fire activity. With the significantly increased humidity, fire managers are evaluating the success probability of planned firing operations and will adjust tactics as necessary.

TODAY:  The team will continue evaluating suppression options and are developing tactics to account for the increased humidity as they work to hold the fire at the ridgetop between Okanagon and Skagit County. Crews will focus their efforts improving containment lines along State Route 20 as well as clearing any hazards along the roadway.

WEATHER AND SMOKE:  Thunderstorms chances will decrease, with the main threat shifted to the north. Unlike previous days, the storm track will be moving to the northeast. High temperatures will remain in the low 80s for one more day, before a slight cooling begins dropping into the mid-70’s. Relative humidity during the day is expected to increase into the mid to upper 40’s.

Communities east and southeast of the Easy and Pioneer fires in the lower Chelan, Methow, and Okanogan Valleys will have moderate air quality to start the day. Some of these areas will see increased smoke from these fires and regional fires that will likely degrade air quality to “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” in the evening. Air quality in the Stehekin and upper Skagit Valleys will likely be “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” in the morning and late evening, with moderate air quality during the day. The full smoke report is available:  The full smoke report is available: https://outlooks.airfire.org/outlook/f79a6d6d

CLOSURES: State Route 20 is closed in both directions between Granite Creek (MP 148) and Rainy Pass (MP 157): https://wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/. State Route 20 will remain closed through the weekend as crews continue working to mitigate hazards. Washington Department of Transportation will reevaluate conditions on Monday August 12, 2024. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has closures in place for trails within the fire area: https://bit.ly/EasyFireClosures. This closure includes a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Campfires are prohibited. There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place over the fire: https://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_4_6779.html. Unauthorized drone activity is prohibited under the TFR.

EVACUATIONS:  There are no evacuations in place for the Easy Fire. Visitors recreating in the area should be vigilant of surroundings and stay out of closed areas.
