Leland Complex Sand Mountain Fire Grows

The Sand Mountain Fire of the Leland Complex grew substantially this afternoon due to extremely dry conditions, heavy fuel loading, and high temperatures. Crews were forced to withdraw due to extreme fire behavior and are attempting to re-engage where safe to do so. Fire managers are working to establish additional road and trail closures surrounding the fire area. The public is asked to comply with all restrictions in place. The roads are not large enough to accommodate engines or heavy equipment transports and oncoming recreational traffic. No structures are threatened and there are no evacuations.
