The Stronghold Fire is now 75% contained at 2,138 acres.

Hotshot and hand crews stayed engaged throughout the day Saturday on the southwest side of the fire. There has been no visible smokes, but some interior pockets of unburned fuel may continue to consume.

Sunday's Fire Weather Watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for most of southeastern Arizona, including Cochise County and the Stronghold Fire-area. Wind speeds will exceed critical thresholds Sunday with RH values around to slightly above critical thresholds during the afternoon. Wind gusts forecast up to 50 mph.

The Southeast Zone Incident Management Team will remain in command of the incident through the fire weather event to support the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management and the Coronado National Forest in the event of a new start. Resources on the Stronghold remain available to respond for any initial attack.

There are no evacuations, but the Coronado National Forest does have a temporary closure order in place due to the fire.

The Stronghold Fire started at approximately 11:30 am on Monday, April 28, near Sunsites-Pearce and 16 miles south of Cochise. It was fueled by high winds and drought stricken fuels throughout the duration of the initial attack period.
