Texas A&M Forest Service staff have plan to conduct a prescribed burn in February 2025. Units chosen for completion are chosen based on weather conditions, staffing needs, and condition of vegetation.
Texas A&M Forest Service in cooperation with US Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting a prescribed burn near Cassels-Boykin Park in Angelina County during late winter to early spring 2025.
This prescribed burn is designed to meet multiple land management objectives including reducing the accumulation of hazardous fuels, improve forest health, improve access and visibility for forest management activities and improve wildlife habitat.
Each prescribed burn unit are conducted only when weather and fuel conditions are favorable, and these burns are rescheduled if necessary, to ensure the objectives for each unit have a high potential for success. Texas A&M Forest Service personnel will monitor all prescribed burns to evaluate achievement goals and help guide future prescriptions.
Nearby residents can expect to see smoke during ignition operations. These effects will be mitigated by conducting the prescribed fire on days with good ventilation so that smoke will be dispersed away from communities.
Motorists are urged to take caution, heed warning signs and be aware of fire crews working in the area.
More information will be published as weather conditions allow for safe burning operations.
