On the afternoon of July 9, 2022, fire started 6 miles northwest. Fire is located in extremely difficult terrain, and very thick cedar and mesquite. Multiple local fire departments responded to assist, along with State resources from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) and Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS). TAMFS and Seymour Volunteer Fire Department are working in unified command.

With the passage of the cold front, winds will gradually shift out of the north to out of the east throughout the day Tuesday. Winds will increase throughout the day, increasing to 15-20mph in the afternoon with gusts up to 25mph. Temperatures will increase into the 100s with relative humidities dropping into the mid 20s.
