The Dry Rice Fire was reported on July 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm approximately 4 miles south of Columbus, Texas. The fire started west of the intersection of County Road 103 and State Highway 71 and is spreading through tall grass and brush vegetation.
Elevated fire weather, including triple digit temperatures, low relative humidity and wind speeds near 15 mph, is supporting moderate fire behavior where dry to critically dry vegetation is present on the fire.
Multiple local fire departments and state resources, including Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS)and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), are assisting in suppression efforts. Aviation resources have been ordered to assist while dozers are constructing line. TAMFS, TPWD, and local fire departments are working in unified command.
