Highlighted Activity

On Wednesday, March 18, the Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance just after 2:00 pm for a wildfire in Dallam County, west of Highway 385. The fire is burning on private land and on the Rita Blanca National Grassland. There is active fire on all flanks and growth potential is high. The fire is under Unified Command with multiple agencies cooperating.
March 18th 7:30 pm - The head of the fire has been checked up to Ben Tom Road. Equipment is engaged on the right flank and the left flank of the fire is currently unknown. Visibility conditions are near zero due to dust and smoke. The fire has made it in to Oklahoma. By 10:00 pm, forward progression of the fire had been stopped.
March 19th 9:30 am - Crews are working to map the fire. Mop up work on the fire continues on known areas of need and crews continue to look for additional areas in need of mop up.
March 19th 3:00 pm - The fire is 100% contained and is expected to be fully controlled by March 24.
