The Horse Fire was reported the morning of Friday, June 13, 2025 by a Bridger-Teton National Forest employee. The smoke was visible from McDougal Gap in Sublette County, WY. The lightning-caused fire initially showed some single tree torching and creeping. It is near the confluence of South Horse Creek and Cow Creek approximately 10 miles west of Merna, WY.

Planned Actions

Scout and implement indirect control lines on the west and north end of the fire. Improve line constructed and scouted on the south flank moving east. Utilize aircraft to slow progression of the fire to allow control lines to be put into place.

Projected Incident Activity

Growth to the east and north with some backing fire to the west and south.

Remarks

A Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team took over management of the fire on Sunday, June 15 at 06:00 a.m.

Slightly cooler temperatures with isolated showers expected Monday evening. With the isolated showers, gusty winds can be expected over the fire Monday afternoon/evening. Tuesday will continue having cooler temperatures but it will be mostly sunny. Increased afternoon winds can be expected again.
