The remaining mop up work is near Baldy Mountain, where efforts will focus on gridding for any remaining heat. Suppression repair work near Baldy Mountain and in the Peggy Butte area will be completed today as well. 

Firefighters push toward completion of mop upMITCHELL, Ore. – Mop up on the Shoe Fly Fire is near completion. Firefighters have reached 300 feet of cold black adjacent to the perimeter on much of the 26,774 acre fire, resulting in an increase of containment to 77%.

Crews focus on mop up, return of warm weatherMITCHELL, Ore. – Crews on the Shoe Fly Fire continue to work into the interior of the fire from the perimeter, creating an area of cold black adjacent to the fireline. The fire has reached 65% containment with significant portions of the fire in patrol status and all areas with a minimum of 100 feet mopped up from the perimeter into the interior of the fire. 

Evacuation notices lifted, rain aids in mop upMITCHELL, Ore. – All evacuation notices associated with the Shoe Fly Fire have been cancelled by Wheeler County Sheriff, Emergency Management and the Fire Defense Board Chief as of Wednesday morning. The fire continues to hold within containment lines.

Firefighters secure Shoe Fly Fire perimeterMITCHELL, Ore. – Firefighters on the Shoe Fly Fire have completed perimeter control and are turning efforts to mop up and suppression repair work. The fire is 26,502 acres with 32% containment. Incident Commander Joe Hessel told firefighters and landowners at Tuesday morning’s briefing, “We have turned the corner on the fire, we aren’t trying to chase and catch it anymore. Now it’s time to focus on a thorough, coordinated, methodical mop up around the fire.” 

Mop up continues across the Shoe Fly FireMITCHELL, Ore. – Firefighters on the Shoe Fly Fire are continuing to push forward on progress across the incident, mopping up around the entire perimeter of the fire and focusing in on one final challenging location. The 24/7 efforts put in by resources, including firefighters, landowners and agencies over the past couple of shifts have paid off and lines have been able to withstand today’s warm and windy conditions.

Firefighters continue mop up, focus on completing firelineMITCHELL, Ore. – Overnight firefighters worked to tie together portions of fireline on the southwest corner of the fire near Peggy Butte. Nearly 300 firefighters worked on the fire last night, taking advantage of reduced fire behavior to increase the depth of cold black on the perimeter and improve fireline. The fire grew slightly to 26,475 acres with increased containment of 26%.

Mop-up continues across Shoe Fly Fire, firefighters focus on two challenging areasMITCHELL, Ore. – Firefighters on the Shoe Fly Fire continued to push forward on progress today, mopping up across the majority of the incident and focusing in on two areas that have been challenging. 

Firefighters hold and secure fire, transition to mop up MITCHELL, Ore. – The Shoe Fly Fire challenged firefighters throughout the day on Saturday, however overnight they were able to hold the fireline and keep the fire within the existing footprint. They were also able to improve the fireline in some areas, working to build it directly adjacent to the fire and widening existing lines. Including Saturday’s fire growth, the fire is now 26,409 acres, with increased containment of 19%.
