Crews hold firelines as high winds continue across the Cody Fire

Highlights: Facing high winds and gusts exceeding 30mph, firefighters successfully held firelines across the Cody Fire yesterday. Residents and visitors are encouraged to drive slowly, maintain awareness and stay informed of current road and area closures.  

Fire Activity: On Friday, hot shot crews worked to secure fireline along the southern perimeter of the Cody Fire while additional ground resources held and secured line to the west and north, including east of the Oracle Ridge Trail and along the Arizona Trail. Today, crews will build on progress made yesterday and overnight, patrolling the fire area, extinguishing hot spots, and mopping up along containment lines. Structure crews will patrol communities and conduct inventories and assessments on impacted infrastructure. 

Evacuations: Pinal County has issued evacuation orders for the following: 

GO Zones: 5/13/14/15/16/17/18/19 in the Oracle area. 

SET Zones: 1/2/3/4/6/7/8/9/10/11/12 in the Oracle area. 
 
Evacuation Centers have been set up at the Canyon Del Oro High School, 25 W. Calle Concordia, Oro Valley, AZ  85704, and at the Mammoth Community Center, 101 W. 5th St, Mammoth, AZ 85618. 

Weather: Low humidity, clear skies and high winds are expected over the fire area through the weekend. 

Safety: For public and firefighter safety, please avoid the area to allow fire traffic to work to contain the fire. As a reminder, if you fly a drone near the fire area, our aircraft will be grounded. 

Road Closures: The following roads are closed - Cody Loop/Sam Clemens, Cody Loop/Durant Rd, Mt Lemon Hwy/Dodge Dr, Old Webb/Memorial Parkway, Paseo Encino/John Adams. More information is available at https://az511.gov. Additionally, W American Ave and American Ave, and S Veterans Memorial Blvd toward San Manuel are closed, open to local residents only.   

Fire Restrictions and Closures: State 2 Fire Restrictions are currently issued for the Coronado National Forest, which includes recreational shooting (https://www.fs.usda.gov/r03/coronado/alerts). Stage 2 restrictions are also in effect on State Trust Lands in southern/southeastern Arizona (wildlandfire.az.gov). 

The fire area is under Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). Individuals who have been determined to have endangered manned aircraft or people on the ground with a UAS and/or interfered with wildfire suppression may be subject to civil penalties, including fines of up to $25,000, and potentially criminal prosecution.
