The Inn Fire is now 82% contained. Fire behavior remains minimal, with smoldering and creeping observed in ground vegetation. Yesterday, crews focused on strengthening containment lines, especially on the west side of Highway 395, where handline construction is underway in steep, rugged terrain. The remaining uncontained areas include the high-elevation slopes and sections along the east side of Highway 395 near the roadway. On the west side, handline construction is progressing slowly due to limited access and dense fuels. Pockets of heat remain in the western tip of the fire and within the central interior east of Highway 395.

Firefighters are continuing mop-up operations, working over 100 feet in from the fire’s edge to ensure the perimeter is secure. Mop-up involves using water or hand tools to stir and cool residual heat, ensuring hidden embers and hotspots are extinguished to prevent flare-ups as conditions are expected to be warmer and drier.

Suppression repair is underway on the east side of the fire near Mono County Park, where chippers, dozers, and excavators are being used to reduce the impacts of fireline construction. Resource advisors are guiding these efforts to help restore the landscape, reduce erosion, and support ecological recovery.

The burn area continues to pose several hazards, including rockfall, loose soils, and burning stump holes. To protect public health and safety, the Inyo National Forest has issued a Forest Closure Order for the Inn Fire area as of May 27. Please avoid the closure area. As of May 25, Highway 395 has reopened with traffic controls in place. Drivers are urged to remain alert and use extreme caution due to continued fire operations and personnel in the area.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as firefighters work toward full containment.
