Six Rivers National Forest and Hoopa Tribe Joint News Release 

August 17, 2023– This update is for wildfires near Willow Creek, Hoopa and Orleans. 

New Fire: Pearch Fire This fire was reported last night August 16, it is located northeast of Orleans and is burning in the Pearch Creek drainage. Current resources on scene include 2 engines and 1 water tender.

Lone Pine Fire is located south of Hoopa, in the Horse Linto Creek drainage east of the Trinity River across the river from the Tish Tang Campground. Fire is currently 450 acres and 5% contained. An evacuation ADVISORY has been issued by the Hoopa Office of Emergency Services for zone HIA-E014-B. This zone is north of the Bigfoot Scenic Byway; south of Tish Tang Road; east of Tish Tang Road. This ADVISORY is a precautionary notice designed to give residents time to prepare for a possible evacuation. Potential for evacuation warning if fire crosses Tish Tang Creek. There are NO EVACUATIONS CURRENTLY. More information will be provided if fire conditions change. Residents are encouraged to prepare medically vulnerable and elderly people should evacuation warning be issued. The North Coast Incident Management Team 3 is working closely with the Hoopa Valley Tribe to fight the Lone Pine Fire to protect tribal resources. The fire is burning within the Six Rivers National Forest and the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation. The Incident command post will move to the Hoopa Fire Department today.  

Bluff Complex The Bluff Complex consists of 5 separate fires located near the Bluff Creek area north of Mosquito Lake. The total acreage for the complex is approximately 200 acres. 

The 3-1 to 3-6 Fires (referred to by some sources as the Pilot Fire) consists of six separate fires named 3-1; 3-2; 3-3; 3-4; 3-5; 3-6. These fires are burning in Humboldt County, just northwest of the Trinity County Line and Forest Route 1 near Blake Mountain. The total acreage for these fires is over 100 acres with 0% containment. Fire 3-1 is the largest of the six combined fires with the majority of acres burning in steep heavy timbered ground with fire activity backing, creeping and isolated torching. Resources on fires 3-2; 3-3; 3-4; 3-5; 3-6 continue to establish handline and dozer line and hose lay to contain fire spread. CalFire has been a key part in leading the effort to suppress and manage these fires. They’ve provided excellent leadership, critical resources, and maintained great coordination with the North Coast Incident Management Team. There are several resources on scene including 5 engines, 2 hand crews, 1 dozer, 1 helitanker, 2 foresters, water tenders and numerous battalion chiefs. 

Despite red flag weather warnings for heat and high winds yesterday, fire activity remained moderate with no significant runs. Rain is predicted this morning until 10 a.m. with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms before 11 a.m. and after 2 p.m. Patchy smoke is expected throughout the day. A calm wind becoming northwest is expected this afternoon.
