Middle Fork Complex Daily Update Sept. 24, 2024 09-24-2024

Snag Fire, Goat Fire
Publication Type: News - 09/24/2024 - 07:00

Middle Fork Complex: 61,484 acres, 83% completion, 640 Personnel

Snag Fire: 33,300 acres, 89% completion, 175 Personnel

Goat Fire: 26,478 acres 37% completion, 89 personnel

Tuesday sunny skies continue to prevail. Higher relative humidity overnight helps keep fire behavior limited to smoldering and creeping. The clear skies and warm temperatures continue to dry fine fuels, especially in the lower elevations.

Middle Fork Complex – Around the Deadwood Reservoir near the 582 road, firefighters are working a fire line. Today firefighters found heat in a containment line which changed the line from confinement to containment leading to a slight change in the overall completed coverage. Masticating and chipping are near completion and firefighters are working to clear the 555 road of debris within the fuel breaks.

Goat – Lines constructed by firefighters continue to protect values at risk on the west side of the fire. Removal of the equipment and repair to the fire line is nearing completion. Firefighters continue to use heavy equipment and hand crews for resource restoration including the installation of water bars and other land management tools.

Snag – In the Warm Lake corridor, fire fighters were able to build the containment line from Elk Mountain to the Warm Lake Road. Crews continue to look for hotspots and secure that area. Along the Warm Lake highway, engines continue to patrol and mitigate any hazards in the area. Containment work continues in the north section of the fire and crews are working hard and nearing completion.

Middle Fork Complex - Suppression Repair= 31 miles of handline completed. 26 miles of dozer line completed.

Goat and Snag Fires - Suppression Repair = 17.3miles of handline completed. 27.4 miles of dozer line completed.

Firefighters continue to work both fire suppression and suppression repair as needed so heavy firefighting equipment is moving from site to site. Please use extreme caution while traveling, especially when approaching vehicles, and at intersections. Community Meeting: Tonight at 6:00pm at the White Barn in Garden Valley for the Middle Fork Complex.
