Current Situation:

Firefighters on the Stump Fire continued ignition operations yesterday and into the night. They were able to gain additional containment. There is now fire along all control lines and mop up work will begin today. Single tree torching with some backing and flanking fire was observed early last night which transitioned to creeping and smoldering fire behavior this morning. There are some large diameter dead and down trees that continue to burn. Firefighters will continue to hold and improve fire line and additional containment can be expected. The fire has stayed within the mapped area, with no spot fires crossing Highway 36.

Fire managers will employ tactics that safely engage fire while prioritizing firefighter and public safety and protecting values at risk. Life safety will always remain the number one priority. COVID-19 mitigations are being taken to limit exposure risks to firefighters and the public, per CDC guidelines.

Hot and dry conditions persist.

Current Situation:

Firing operations went very well last night (8/2). Firefighters were able to use meadows and road systems as strengthened line across the majority of the fire. Crews will monitor and secure with ground and air resources as the fire moves into isolated pockets within the interior of the fire. The fire is well staffed with over 300 personnel working day and night to gain containment. The fire has stayed within the mapped area, with no spot fires crossing Highway 36.

Fire managers will employ tactics that safely engage fire while prioritizing firefighter and public safety and protecting values at risk. Life safety will always remain the number one priority. COVID-19 mitigations are being taken to limit exposure risks to firefighters and the public, per CDC guidelines.

Weather:

Hot and dry conditions persist.

 

 Current Situation:

Firefighters will continue to secure containment lines today to keep the Stump Fire within its current footprint. Large dead and down trees within the interior of the fire perimeter will smolder over the next several days, and possibly weeks, as fire activity and heat intensity declines. Fire line suppression repair and mop up has begun. Smoke will persist as the fire smolders and activity declines.

Fire managers will employ tactics that safely engage fire while prioritizing firefighter and public safety and protecting values at risk. Life safety will always remain the number one priority. COVID-19 mitigations are being taken to limit exposure risks to firefighters and the public, per CDC guidelines.

Current Situation:

Fire behavior is slowing and consists of large dead and down trees which continue to burn with some creeping and smoldering. Firefighters continue to secure fire lines to the extent necessary to keep the fire within its current footprint. Some fire line suppression repair has begun. While threats remain to nearby Highlands Ranch Resort, Childs Meadow, and California Highway 36, all threats should be mitigated by the end of shift today. Smoke will persist as the fire smolders and activity declines.

Fire managers will employ tactics that safely engage fire while prioritizing firefighter and public safety and protecting values at risk. Life safety will always remain the number one priority. COVID-19 mitigations are being taken to limit exposure risks to firefighters and the public, per CDC guidelines.

Pocket Fire Complex Final Update

Pocket Fire Complex
Fire Location: 40 miles south of Ozona in Crockett and Val Verde Counties

Pocket Fire - 613 acres, 100% contained. Final patrol today was good. No smokes or heat was found. All state resources have been released and the fire has been turned back over to the locals to monitor.
White Mesa Fire - 5 acres, 100% contained.
South Tower Fire - 7 acres, 95% contained.

Pocket Fire Complex
Fire Location: 40 miles south of Ozona in Crockett and Val Verde Counties

Pocket Fire - 613 acres, 90% contained. Crews will continue to patrol and mop up along the fire line, focusing on hot spots.
White Mesa Fire - 5 acres, 100% contained.
South Tower Fire - 7 acres, 100% contained. 

Fire Weather: Hot, dry, breezy conditions can be expected in the fire area. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s. Relative humidity values will fall into the mid to upper 20% range this afternoon. South-southeast winds of 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25-30 mph. No rain is forecasted today.

The Pocket Complex consists of three fires being managed by Texas A&M Forest Service and local resources.
Pocket Fire, Val Verde County – 613 acres, 90% contained
White Mesa Fire, Crockett County – 5 acres, 100% contained
South Tower Fire, Crockett County – 7 acres, 100% contained

There were some interior smokes on the fire today, but nothing that posed a threat to the containment lines. Crews mitigated any issues and continues with patrolling and mopping up around the fire area today. There was no heat identified along the fireline.

Fire Weather: The hot and dry weather pattern will continue today. The minimum relative humidity will be around 30 percent this afternoon. Winds will be out of the southeast with gusts over 20 mph today. There is no chance of rain. Maximum relative humidity will increase to about 80 percent tonight.

Pocket Fire, Val Verde County – 613 acres, 90% contained
White Mesa Fire, Crockett County – 5 acres, 100% contained
South Tower Fire, Crockett County – 7 acres, 100% contained

Today, resources monitored areas of concern across the fire area. Crews continued to patrol and mop up, addressing potentially problematic concentrations of fuels interior. A few spots of interior burning were found today, but were taken care of quickly by firefighters and posed no threat to containment lines. There was also some single tree torching in green pockets interior with the afternoon heat. Despite continued interior burning and heat, containment lines have held with no issues.

Fire Weather: The weather pattern of hot temperatures, dry conditions, and breezy winds will continue over the next 24 or more hours. Yesterday, winds gusted to near 30 mph in the early and mid-afternoon hours. These gusting wind speeds will likely be repeated today with winds from the southeast at speeds of 10-15 mph in the morning before afternoon gusts to 25 mph. These strong winds will stick around in the early-late evening hours. Minimum relative humidity will be around 30 percent today, with maximum levels at 85 percent overnight. There is no chance for rain.
