FINAL DAILY UPDATE: Based on current and expected fire activity, this will be the final daily update for the Rum Creek Fire Warmer weather and low relative humidity levels forecasted for this weekend will assist fire crews on their mission to seek and destroy any lingering heat within 200-feet of containment lines. Fire crews are on track to meet all suppression goals and are winding down this weekend with operations expected to come to an end early next week.Containment is currently 90-percent.
A warming trend will begin today as the low-pressure system that brought almost a half-inch of rain to the fire area begins to move east. Small vegetation gains moisture quickly, but it also loses moisture quickly. As the sun returns, along with warmer temperatures and lower humidity levels, pockets of unburned vegetation will once again be available to burn. An increase in smoke production is possible as temperatures move back into the 80’s this weekend.
Scattered showers are expected to continue over the Rum Creek Fire today, however a warming and drying trend is expected heading into the weekend. Temperatures pushing 90-degrees are expected by Sunday with lower humidity levels. Containment increased to 87-percent on Tuesday.
MERLIN, Ore. – Low pressure off the northern California coast will bring unsettled weather to the Rum Creek Fire over the next few days. Scattered shower and periods of rain are expected through Wednesday with a drying pattern beginning later in the week. Overnight, the fire received a quarter of an inch of rain. Additional moisture may produce small debris flows in the burn area.
Cool and Humid Conditions Continue to Aid Suppression Efforts
More Recreation Opportunities Open Up Within The Rum Creek Fire Area  MERLIN, Ore. – Moderate weather contributed to no new fire growth yesterday and containment remains at 83 percent for the Rum Creek Fire. Wind gusts are expected today for upper slopes and ridges, but elsewhere the projected consecutive days of repeated moisture this weekend should facilitate continued suppression, mop up and patrol, and opportunities for rehab/repair where appropriate.
Evacuations Are Lifted For Rum Creek Fire Area

Most repair work on contingency lines is expected to be completed by Sunday or Monday. Some of the steeper dozer lines, including on the south side of the fire, will take a little longer to stabilize.
Mild weather at Rum Creek FireMERLIN, Ore. – High relative humidity and moderate temperatures continue to keep fire activity low on the Rum Creek Fire. Dead fuels are gradually absorbing moisture from the air, making them less likely to burn. Similar weather and fire behavior are expected to last into next week, with a chance of rain this weekend.
Evacuations, closures reduced near Rum Creek FireMERLIN, Ore. – Fire personnel continue to make progress on the Rum Creek Fire. More residual heat is being mopped up near the fire’s edges. Cooler, more humid weather continues to moderate fire behavior. On the interior of the fire, flames are slowly burning through residual ground fuels. Yesterday, only one small flare-up required water dropped by a helicopter to cool it.
