East Fork Area, 9/15/20 - The evacuation orders have been lifted and the repopulation of Camp Williams, River Community Center, and Fire Camp 19 on East Fork Road is authorized. Residents and business owners that live in the East Fork area between Highway 39 to the west and Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) to the east will be able to access their community through GMR in Glendora.
Highway 39 remains closed until further notice.

TODAY
For those community members who were unable to log-on to the zoom community meeting, we are working on closed-captioning and will provide a link to video as soon as available. The Bobcat Fire is now at 41,231 acres with 3% containment. Firefighters worked diligently last night into this morning with a focus on protecting Mt. Wilson and the foothills communities. An increase in resources is allowing us to expand our efforts to reduce the fire’s growth. Today’s primary focus remains at keeping the fire from reaching Mt. Wilson and the foothill communities. The strategic burn operation will continue as weather conditions permit. A secondary priority will be to keep the Fire south of Highway 2. Aircraft will be utilized to actively support ground resources as visibility allows. The Closure Order for National Forests in Southern California has been extended to September 21.
YESTERDAY
Yesterday the fire was very active on both the north and south ends. It reached within ¾ to ½ mile northwest in the direction of Mt. Wilson Observatory on the southwest and the upper portions of Spanish Creek in the southeast. Strategic burn operations began yesterday and went late into the evening last night to protect the infrastructure around Mt. Wilson. The fire also continued to progress up to Mt. Sally and is approaching Highway 2 in this area. On the north end of the fire crews battled multiple spot fires trying to hold the fire at Highway 2, so far firefighters have been successful in keeping these under control. The eastern side of the fire along Highway 39 remained quiet.
WEATHER
Today the sky will be clear, we continue a warming trend with slightly increased temperature and lower humidities. Winds will be light from the south to southwest during the day and from the east tonight. This trend of increased temperatures and lower humidities is forecasted to last into Thursday. Next weekend it is anticipated that we will see some reprieve in the weather with increased humidities and cooler temperatures.

TODAY
The Bobcat Fire is now at 38,299 acres with 3% containment. The south end of the fire is active with flanking and spotting. The fire crossed the contingency line and is burning on the ridge line above the east side of Little Santa Anita Canyon. Air operations will continue making retardant drops to halt the forward rate of spread. Tonight, the priority will remain to protect the communities south of the fire by continuing strategic firing operations and utilizing fixed wing aircraft. Fire activity was heavy on the west side near Winter Creek and the Santa Anita Wash making its way about ¾ to the Mt. Wilson Observatory. To the north, the fire continues to push up towards Hwy 2. Fire activity in Ranch2 and Fish fire burns scars saw little to no activity today.

YESTERDAY
An evacuation order was issued for portions of Arcadia and Sierra Madre, today firefighters worked to maintain containment lines and keep the fire out of communities to the south. The fire was active around Chantry Flat and in Santa Anita Canyon yesterday and moved west towards Mt. Wilson. Last night fire behavior moderated after approximately 2 AM. Overnight, the fire continued to move primarily west towards Mt. Wilson and north towards Highway 2.
WEATHER
Warm and dry conditions continued across the fire today. Afternoon temperatures climbed into the 80s to mid 90s. Relative humidity dropped down into the teens across most of the fire area. Southwestern ridgetop winds, gusting up to 20 MPH, were observed with typical up-canyon winds at lower elevations. With the warm and dry conditions, the fire remained active. For tonight and Tuesday, slightly warmer and drier conditions are expected.

The mandatory evacuation order for all residents north of Elkins Ave. and east of Santa Anita Ave. in the City of Arcadia is in effect until further notice. The remaining residents north of Foothill Blvd. and east of Santa Anita Ave. are still under an evacuation warning. Fire officials are meeting later this morning to discuss the status of the fire and will make a determination regarding changes to evacuation orders and warnings.
Residents in the affected areas advised to evacuate the area using Santa Anita Ave. A Red Cross Evacuation Center has been established at Santa Anita Race Track, located at 285 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA, 91007. Residents are advised to enter through Gate 5.
The Arcadia Police Department will continue to provide routine patrols within the mandatory evacuation area. Elderly, disabled, and high-risk residents who require evacuation assistance are advised to dial 9-1-1.
The Angeles National Forest will be hosting a virtual public meeting via Zoom on today, Monday, September 14, 2020, at 6:30 PM. Representatives from agencies fighting the Bobcat Fire will be available to provide an update.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a Smoke Advisory for the South Coast Air Basin through Monday September 134h due to the smoke from the Bobcat and El Dorado fires. Additionally, smoke from the fires in Northern and Central California is also being transported south and may impact the South Coast Air Basin and Coachella Valley.
Monday afternoon: Onshore winds will start after noon and will likely move smoke to the north and northeast into the mountains of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties and out of the South Coast Air Basin. Modest smoke impacts may persist throughout the rest of the South Coast Air Basin and Coachella Valley due to smoke from the Northern and Central California fires.
Overall, meteorological conditions will bring smoke and ash into portions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. Unhealthy or higher AQI levels due to PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations are possible in areas of direct smoke impacts. Impacts will be highly variable throughout the day, impacting different parts of the region at different times.

This morning the Bobcat Fire is at 36,366 acres and 6% containment. Crews today will be focused on strengthening and improving the fireline between the south end of the fire and the foothills communities. When possible, control lines will be established on the fires edge and you can expect to see strategic firing operations as part of this effort. The fire has crossed to the west side of Santa Anita Canyon and is growing in the direction of Mt. Wilson and Mt. Harvard and continued line construction and strategic firing will be occurring in this area as well. On the north end the fire has reached Bear Creek and will continue to spread west along the crest. So far crews have been successful at picking up all spot fires that have crossed Highway 2 and will continue with these efforts. The fire is holding to the west side of Highway 39 and crews will continue to work at maintaining this perimeter. Tonight, fire management will host a virtual public meeting via Zoom at 6:30 PM.
