Final 580 Fire Update July 25 530 PM

580 Fire is 120 acres, 100% contained.
Location: Approximately 12 miles southwest of Lometa in Lampasas County.

Bulldozers worked along the right flank of the fire, following a natural drainage. They were able to finish constructing firelines, tying them into natural features around the fire area. Engines patrolled and searched the fire area for hot spots as well as ensured that constructed lines were holding.

This fire will be transferred back to local resources to monitor. 

580 Fire Update July 25 1000 AM

580 Fire is estimated 120 acres, 75% contained.
Location: Approximately 12 miles southwest of Lometa in Lampasas County.

Bulldozers will continue to build fireline on both the left and right flanks of the fire, working to tie their containment lines together. Engines will be patrolling and mopping up the fire area, checking for hot spots and ensuring the constructed lines are holding.

Weather & Fire Behavior: Winds will remain out of the east at speeds between 10-15mph and gusts up to 20mph, shifting slightly from southeast to northeast throughout the day. Morning cloud cover will give way to partly cloudy skies with a few rounds of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected over the fire area today. Elevated wind speeds with gusty and erratic winds are expected with the showers. Humidity will decrease quickly after morning cloud cover breaks with minimum values around 45-50 percent. 

Resources Threatened: No structures or resources are threatened.

580 Fire Update July 24 700 PM

580 Fire: estimated 120 acres, 50% contained.
Location: Approximately 12 miles southwest of Lometa in Lampasas County.

Bulldozers are currently working to construct line on both the left and right flanks of the fire, working to tie their containment lines together. Aviation resources include air attack and a Type 1 helicopter that is on scene assisting ground resources with water drops on hot spots across the fire area.

Weather & Fire Behavior: Tonight, warm and increasingly humid conditions will prevail with increase cloud cover. Scattered showers and thunderstorm chances increase Saturday as Tropical Storm Hanna makes landfall across South Texas.

Resources Threatened: No structures or resources are threatened.

The fire has been turned back over to the local fire departments and will continue to be monitored.  

Monarch Fire Update August 2 815 PM

Location: 45 miles southwest of Sonora, Texas.

Today, ground resources continued to patrol and mop up along the fire line, focusing on hotspots. The fire looked really good again today. One heat source was found and taken care of today. Very hot and dry conditions are expected all week across the fire area. The fire is expected to be listed as controlled on Friday, August 7 by the end of shift. A crew will continue to patrol the fire area several times this week to check for heat sources.

Location: 45 miles southwest of Sonora, Texas.

Crews have returned to the fire this morning and will continue to patrol and mop up along the containment lines.

Fire Weather: No significant rainfall is expected today. Light southeast winds of 5-7 mph are expected and possibly turning more out of the east this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values could drop as low as 22% today. Monday should be similar to today but the wind directions are forecasted to become more southeast to south.

Today, ground resources continued to patrol and mop up along the fire line, focusing on hotspots. No smokes and no heat was reported today. Tomorrow, crews will continue to mop up and patrol the fire area to make sure no smokes are present before wrapping up the fire.

Location: 45 miles southwest of Sonora, Texas.

Overnight, the fire received some light precipitation and is looking good this morning. Ground resources will be patrolling the fire and will focus on mopping up any heat along the perimeter in anticipation of much lower relative humidity values and higher temperatures expected today.

Fire Weather: Light north to northeast winds are forecasted today with minimum relative humidity values dropping to 20-25% this afternoon. Wind gusts this afternoon could approach 15 mph. High temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit. A slight chance for rain will come late this afternoon but better chances for rain will exist for areas southeast of the fire location.
