SEAT Retardant Drop on Limepoint

The Limepoint Fire is north of Oxbow Dam in Adams County, Idaho and was started by lightning on July 24th, burning in tall grass, brush and timber. The southern part of the fire was once a smaller, separate fire named the Oxbow Fire, but both fires burned together and are now collectively known as the Limepoint Fire. The fire is east of the Snake River and has spread northeast.

Communities including Cuprum, Bear, Calf Pen, Barber Flats and Wildhorse that had been evacuated per the Adams County Sheriff’s Office have been allowed to return to their homes. The Payette National Forest issued a Forest Closure to protect public safety during the Limepoint and Cliff Mountain wildfires. The closure includes, but is not limited to the following recreation areas: Sheep Rock, Kinney Point and Horse Mountain Lookout is closed. For more information go to https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/payette/alerts-notices.

All Payette NF fire restrictions have been lifted. Campfires should never be left unattended, and should be completely extinguished. For more information click this link or visit the Idaho's fire restrictions website at: https://www.idl.idaho.gov/fire-management/fire-restrictions-finder/

Fuels Involved

South, west, and east-facing slopes are characterized by moderate to heavy fuel loads of tall grasses with stringers of brush and timber. Drainage bottoms and north-facing slopes have dense mixed conifer stands. Sparse higher elevation ridgelines and rocky outcroppings continue to restrict fire spread. Higher elevation grass and brush have become available to burn and are contributing to fire spread.

Significant Events

Interior Islands adjacent to the line continue backing with occasional single tree torching. Along uncontained control lines, behavior is limited to smoldering.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Mop up along containment lines focusing on areas with the highest potential to threaten the line, especially in areas fired during the previous shift in Division G. Monitor weather and it's affect on unburned islands. Patrol for new starts that may occur should lightning move into the area. Weather may impact logistics for spike camp. Continue suppression repair efforts working from the south side of the fire toward the north.

Projected Incident Activity

The fire is expected to remain within current containment lines contingent on success of firing operations and fire behavior in interior unburned isands near the fire's edge.  However, warm and dry conditions in combination with possible dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds of 50-60 mph may result in spotting outside of established fire lines.  Lightning may result in new starts in the vicinity of the fire.

Current Weather
Weather Concerns

Gusty wind conditions from 35-45 mph still exist could occur during todays operational period.
