Image is from inside the Black Feather Fire perimeter. This is an example of an area where the fire burned for a long time in heavy down and dead material. If you look closely, you can make out parts of logs, branches, a few small bushes, and even a few saplings. In the background there is still a lot of green and unburned fuels.

Chainsaws are an important tool for a wildland firefighter. One way firefighters use chainsaws is to cut large dead and down material or fuels into small and more manageable pieces as can be seen in this photo taken on the Black Feather Fire.

The roads leading into the Black Feather Fire are used by fire crews to hike into where they will be working.
