Situación actual: Hoy, equipos de bomberos continuaron con las operaciones de extinguir humo y calor dentro del interior del incendio y reforzaron las líneas de contención, centrándose en el terreno empinado cerca de Winters Creek a lo largo del flanco norte del incendio. Los equipos de búsqueda y rescate urbano han completado más de 8,800 inspecciones y han cubierto 1,100 millas en patrones de búsqueda en cuadrícula. Highlights: The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) continues to make assessments for post-fire risks. The temporary flight restriction (TFR) has been removed as the aircraft are released. Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are still being utilized on the incident; while there’s no TFR, pilots are encouraged to continue safe practices when flying over the fire area to protect crews that are still working throughout the fire area.
 

Operations: The SR-260 corridor is being monitored and patrolled, particularly in the area that remains uncontained. Crews will work on completing containment lines along the rest of the SR-260 corridor and travelers are encouraged to be cautious around firefighters and apparatuses on the road. Firefighters are patrolling the perimeter and working on suppression repair throughout all areas. Grading continues along the Forest Service 76 and 300 roads.

Weather: A warm and sunny morning is forecasted today with increasing cloud coverage as the day progresses. Winds will shift later in the day to south/southeast winds with gusts up to 20mph. There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers at higher elevations tonight.

Current Situation:  Calmer overnight and early morning winds reduced fire activity allowing firefighters to make good progress in securing containment lines. Overnight, fire activity was limited to smoldering, creeping, and rollouts in heavy fuels. Crews remain focused on tactical patrols, mop-up, and addressing smoke and heat sources within the fire’s interior, particularly along the northern perimeter. Today, air support continues to be used to extinguish inaccessible hot spots, aiding containment efforts. Urban Search and Rescue resources have completed a total of 8,628 inspections (92% complete). Fire suppression repairs and rapid watershed assessments to identify risks to life, property, and infrastructure from debris flows, flooding, and rockfall hazards are in progress.  

Weather: Mild winds are expected today, and low humidity will keep conditions dry. Moist marine air and moderate onshore winds will build Friday into the weekend with a return to dry conditions next week. 

Damage Assessment: Damage estimates from remote sensing technologies indicate over 7,000 structures may have been damaged or destroyed. While this is a preliminary estimate, the number of structures damaged and destroyed listed at the top of this page have been verified by on-the-ground damage inspection teams. Damage inspection teams have completed inspections for 60% of all structures within the fire footprint.

In Altadena, all three Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams were active, with the majority of search operations nearing completion. Firefighters have completed the application of ground-based retardant around the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and conducted brush clearance at strategic locations in La Cañada. Utility operations are ongoing in the affected communities. 

Weather: Gentle offshore winds will continue to weaken tonight. Calmer but dry conditions will build Thursday with some moisture arriving this weekend. Critical fire weather conditions will likely return early next week. 

Damage Assessment: Damage estimates from remote sensing technologies indicate over 7,000 structures may have been damaged or destroyed. While this is a preliminary estimate, the number of structures damaged and destroyed listed at the top of this page have been verified by on-the-ground damage inspection teams. Damage inspection teams have completed inspections for 50% of all structures within the fire footprint.

BAER Team arrives to assess soil burn severity as containment increases.
Horton Fire Update: January 15, 2025

Personnel: 119 Fuels: Timber, chaparral Resources: 1 crew | 5 engines | 1 helicopter | 1 UAS | 1 bulldozer | 1 water tender 

Highlights: The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has arrived and will begin to assess the burn severity of the soil. This specialized team evaluates recently burned areas for damage caused by the fire and implements emergency treatments as necessary to protect life, property, and natural resources. Containment increased as the crews strengthened and completed containment lines along the majority of the SR-260 corridor. Significant amounts of repair work have been completed in the northeastern portion of the fire area. 

Operations: The SR-260 corridor will be monitored and patrolled, particularly in the area that remains uncontained. As work continues along SR-260 travelers are encouraged to be mindful of fire traffic throughout the day. Crews will continue patrolling the perimeter and working on suppression repair throughout all areas. Forest Service Road 284 is being repaired and improved using heavy equipment. 

Temporary Flight Restriction: (TFR 5/1983) remains in place for the Horton Fire through January 31. Intruding the flight restriction area puts operations and fire fighter safety, both in the air and on the ground, at risk. Weather: Mostly sunny with temperatures averaging in the mid-40s and light to moderate winds out of the Northeast.
